Pattern for a 3 dimensional Blue and Gold Macaw, a large South American member of the parrot family.

Designed to stand flat on his feet with his tail hanging down behind him.

Detailed instructions including word charts, detail diagrams, and photographs illustrating progress along the way.

Sized for 15/0 OR 11/0 Miyuki round seed beads. Not tested for other brands of seed beads which may have a different length to width ratio which can distort the pattern slightly. Cylinder beads like Delicas will not work because of the curved surfaces and will greatly distort the shape of the Macaw because of their squarer shape.

11 colors of 15/0 or 11/0 round seed beads, plus one color of 11/0 (if using 15/0) or 8/0 (if using 11/0) for the toes. Approximately 16,700 beads total.

Round black opaque glass beads for the eyes: 3 mm for 15/0, or 4 mm for 11/0

Feet/legs use wire to allow the bird to stand with some adjustment for balance. No foam ball is required.

Skills needed: Peyote stitch in the round, stepping up at the end of rows, plus flat peyote stitch in even count and odd count. Ability to start peyote stitch without a starter strip. Ability to follow a detailed word chart.

Finished size approximately 8.75" (22 cm) from top of head to tip of tail when made in 15/0 Miyuki round seed beads. OR Approximately 11.6" (29.5 cm) when made in 11/0 Miyuki round seed beads. Life-size is much larger.

This is a detailed complex pattern that requires close attention to increases and decreases to maintain the shape.

The word chart is much more detailed than usual to keep the shape going perfectly.
