Pattern for a 3 dimensional Bluebird

Sized for 15/0 Miyuki round seed beads, or 11/0 Miyuki round seed beads. Other brands of seed beads may not be the same dimensions or have a different length to width ratio which may distort the pattern slightly. Cylinder beads like Delicas will not work well because of the curved surfaces on the design.

8 colors of 15/0 or 11/0 round seed beads plus 1 color of DBM and 11/0 for the legs (or DBL and 8/0 for the legs if working in 11/0 for the body). Approximately 7500 beads total.

Round black opaque glass beads for the eyes: 4mm for 15/0, or 6mm for 11/0

Feet use 20 gauge wire to allow the bird to stand. Could be made without wire if you want to hang the bird like an ornament or on a mobile.

Polystyrene ball (~32 mm for 15/0; ~38 mm for 11/0): used internally to support the legs, plus additional stuffing material

Skills needed: Peyote stitch in the round, stepping up at the end of rows, plus flat peyote in even count and odd count. Ability to start peyote stitch without a starter strip. Ability to follow a detailed word chart.

NOT a beginner's pattern. Advanced level.

Finished size approximately 4.75" (12 cm) from top of head to tip of tail when made in 15/0. Made in 11/0 would be about 6.3" (16 cm), which is about life size.

This is a very detailed complex pattern that requires close attention to increases and decreases to maintain the shape.

The word chart is much more detailed than usual to keep the shape going perfectly.
