Pattern for a 3-dimensional European Goldfinch

Designed to stand on his feet with his head turned a little to one side.

Detailed instructions including word charts, detail photographs, and photographs illustrating progress along the way.

32 pages, including the cover

Sized for 15/0 OR 11/0 Miyuki round seed beads. Not tested for other brands of seed beads which may have a different length to width ratio which can distort the pattern. Cylinder beads like Delicas will greatly distort the shape of the bird because of their squarer shape.

9 colors of 15/0 or 11/0 round seed beads, plus one color a size larger than the other 9 colors; approximately 6,735 beads total.

Round black opaque glass beads for the eyes: 3 mm if using 15/0, or 4 mm if using 11/0

The legs have a wire armature.

Skills needed: Peyote stitch in the round, stepping up at the end of rows, plus flat peyote stitch in even count and odd count. Ability to start peyote stitch without a starter strip. Ability to follow a detailed word chart.

Word chart requires the "Explanation of Materials and Word Charts for 3D Patterns", which is free to download on this website under the heading of Useful Information.

Finished size when made in 15/0 Miyuki round seed beads: approximately 4.25" (10.8 cm) from top of head to tip of tail with a standing height 3.25" (10.8 cm)

Finished size when made in 11/0 Miyuki round seed beads: approximately 5.5" (14 cm) from top of head to tip of tail with a standing height of 4.3" (11 cm)

This is a detailed complex pattern that requires close attention to increases and decreases to maintain the shape.

The word chart is very detailed to keep the shape going perfectly.
