Pattern for a 3-dimensional Wood Duck; a colorful duck native to North America from Mexico to Canada.

Designed to stand on his feet with a wire armature.

Detailed instructions including word charts, and lots of photographs illustrating details and progress along the way.

Sized for 15/0 OR 11/0 Miyuki round seed beads. Not tested for other brands of seed beads which may have a different length to width ratio which can distort the pattern. Cylinder beads like Delicas are NOT recommended because they will greatly distort the shape of the duck and not fit well around the curves.

Pattern includes the color option plus some alternative colors.

15 colors of 15/0 or 11/0 round seed beads, plus one color in a size larger. Approximately 11,700 beads total.

Round black glass for the eyes, 3 mm if using 15/0, OR 4 mm for the eyes if using 11/0

Requires some stuffing material such as cotton balls.

Skills needed: Peyote stitch in the round, stepping up at the end of rows, plus flat peyote stitch in even and odd count. Ability to start peyote stitch without a starter strip. Ability to follow a detailed word chart.

Guide to Word Charts is included as a separate download, if you don't already have it.

Finished size when made in 15/0 Miyuki round seed beads: approximately 4.75" (12 cm) from tip of beak to tip of tail, 3.25" (8.2 cm) from floor to top of head.

Finished size when made in 11/0 Miyuki round seed beads: approximately 6.25" (16 cm) from tip of beak to tip of tail, 4.25" (11 cm) from floor to top of head.
